Amritavarsham 50 is not just a birthday celebration, but as Amma and her disciples believe, it is a spiritual gathering to pray for world peace and harmony. She believes that such a meeting of all faiths and nationalities is important in a world that is increasingly experiencing violence and tragedies. Amma's disciples are rich and poor, young and old. Celebrities from business, politics and religion have converged in Kochi to attend the Amritavarsham 50 celebrations. The Mata Amritanandamayi Math has decided to organise a mass marriage for couples unable to afford a proper wedding. About 25,000 people gathered in the Amriteswari Hall to witness the Amritavarsham 50 Inter-Faith Summit in which Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Jewish and Jain leaders discussed promotion of universal human values, freedom of expression, respect for human rights, and reflection, dialogue and service. 'In reality there is no birth or death for the soul, which is the truth of our existence. Hence, the celebrations are in reality a celebration of Amma's love and service to humanity. It is a tribute to all who imbibe Amma's message of love and compassion to the entire creation.'
